By focussing on a page from the last chapter of La coscienza di Zeno, the article outlines the development of a typical Svevian theme, that of autobiographical writing as a form of mystification. The aim is to present the selected passage as the point of arrival of Svevo’s (modernist) reflection on the relationship between reality and fiction.
