The article deals with the problems of East-West trade and changes rsulting from the mutual recognition of the European Community and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA or Comicon) in 1988. There is a discussion of how the Common Commercial Policy was applied in trade with Eastern Europe, and of the bilateral trade and cooperation agreements signed between the Community and individual Central and East European countries from 1988.
