The article is one of the first attempts to analyse the issues associated with historical content generated using artificial intelligence (A.I.), specifically ChatGPT. Using Italian Fascism as a subject and data set of questions, the article underlines the risks of A.I.-generated historical narratives. In particular, the authors emphasize that users, particularly those with less expertise, may stumble on incorrect historical data or problematic interpretations of complex historical phenomena, incurring risks related to distortions of public memory and interpretations of the past in the era of artificial intelligence.

Abstract

The article is one of the first attempts to analyse the issues associated with historical content generated using artificial intelligence (A.I.), specifically ChatGPT. Using Italian Fascism as a subject and data set of questions, the article underlines the risks of A.I.-generated historical narratives. In particular, the authors emphasize that users, particularly those with less expertise, may stumble on incorrect historical data or problematic interpretations of complex historical phenomena, incurring risks related to distortions of public memory and interpretations of the past in the era of artificial intelligence.
