La figura e l’opera di Giovanni Guidi senior (1464-1530), autore del De mineralibus tractatus in genere: un giurista dimenticato nella Toscana medicea

In this essay the biographical profile and the principal areas of interest of Giovanni Guidi Senior are outlined. This jurist, who was born and lived in Volterra (1464 - 1530), had an intense working life as a legal adviser, ambassador and statutarius, maintaining connections with the ruling, Florentine group and with the most important jurists that attended the Tuscan Studia of the time. Distinguished by his extraordinary juridic erudition, Giovanni Senior put order in the code of law of the consilia of Dominicus de Sancto Geminiano and then handed it over to be published by Felinus Sandaeus and Iohannes Stafileus. His most important work, however, was the ' De mineralibus tractatus in genere', published posthumously (1625) by his grandson Giovanni Guidi Junior.

Il Guidi ha svolto un’intensa attività pratica come consulente, ambasciatore e statutarius, intrattenendo legami con il gruppo dirigente fiorentino e con i maggiori giuristi che all’epoca frequentavano gli Studia toscani. Caratterizzato da una straordinaria erudizione giuridica, Giovanni senior ha sistemato la raccolta dei consilia di Domenico da San Gimignano, poi passati alla stampa sotto la cura di Felino Sandei e Giovanni Stafileo, ma la sua opera principale rimane il De mineralibus tractatus in genere, pubblicato postumo (1625) dal nipote Giovanni Guidi iunior.
