There are many ways to connect Wittgenstein to Freud. The usual and perhaps expected way is that of starting with Wittgenstein’s statements on Freud. In what follows, I will proceed differently, reconstructing the connection between Wittgenstein’s philosophical practice - the so-called therapeutic method - and Freud’s psychoanalysis. After clarifying the meaning and range of that method, I will demonstrate its relevance to the psychoanalyst, exploring the question of knowability of others and addressing the specific situation of the analytic relationship (drawing on Donald Spence, who for some time has related clinical activity to theoretical and metapsychological thinking about psychoanalysis). © 2016, E-Flow PDF Societa Psicoanalitica Italiana. Abstract
