Our initial experience with this procedure shows promising short-term outcomes. A history of previous treatment of the prostate does not appear to compromise the perioperative outcomes in patients who undergo RALP. Long-term data, including rates of biochemical recurrence, continence and potency, are needed to assess completely the impact of previous treatment to the prostate when considering RALP. The technological advantages of the robot might be ideally suited for these surgically demanding cases and seems ideal to navigate the difficult tissue planes of a previously treated surgical field.

Abstract

Our initial experience with this procedure shows promising short-term outcomes. A history of previous treatment of the prostate does not appear to compromise the perioperative outcomes in patients who undergo RALP. Long-term data, including rates of biochemical recurrence, continence and potency, are needed to assess completely the impact of previous treatment to the prostate when considering RALP. The technological advantages of the robot might be ideally suited for these surgically demanding cases and seems ideal to navigate the difficult tissue planes of a previously treated surgical field.
