The essay examines Labour law applied in the Italian colonies. That one valid for Italian citizens (and Europeans assimilated) showed some significant peculiarities compared to the national and was more complete in Libya than in East Africa. That one accorded to indigenous subjects was instead a mixture of tribal customs and mostly repressive legal rules, culminating in a law on forced work. The basic framework was dominated by profoundly racist legal relations between whites and blacks, in which a few first timid logic of assimilation was immediately overwhelmed by the ideologies of separation, that fascism institutionalized.

Abstract
The essay examines Labour law applied in the Italian colonies. That one valid for Italian citizens (and Europeans assimilated) showed some significant peculiarities compared to the national and was more complete in Libya than in East Africa. That one accorded to indigenous subjects was instead a mixture of tribal customs and mostly repressive legal rules, culminating in a law on forced work. The basic framework was dominated by profoundly racist legal relations between whites and blacks, in which a few first timid logic of assimilation was immediately overwhelmed by the ideologies of separation, that fascism institutionalized.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
