Through a critical discussion of an unpublished essay by Richard Goodwin the paper presents a social philosophy for the XXI century of an evolutionary type. A comparison with another leading figure of evolutionary thought, namely von Hayek, is carried out in order to find similarities as well as differences. as a byproduct the paper explores the changes in the political ideas of a great economist as shaped by the terribel events of the XX century.
