Among the heritable disorders of connective tissue, joint hypermobility represents the most frequent disease; in fact generalized ligamentous laxity is seen in a substantial proportion (perhaps 10%) of healthy individuals, the overwhelming majority of whom probably suffer on ill effects. The aim of this review is reporting the new advances on joint hyperlaxity's pathogenesis and the criteria proposed allowing the differential diagnosis.
