In the present paper, the authors report a case of chronic active hepatitis in a patient suffering from rheumaoid arthritis and try to determine the cause and significance of this lesion. The mechanism underlying the development of this liver disease is as yet unknown. It is suggested that immunological mechanisms may be involved and that the hepatotoxic properties of gold salt used in treatment may be a determining factor. It cannot be excluded that the coincidence of liver disease and rheumatoid arthritis is a chance association. The authors stress the importance of regular liver function tests in patients treated for rheumatoid arthritis.

Abstract
In the present paper, the authors report a case of chronic active hepatitis in a patient suffering from rheumaoid arthritis and try to determine the cause and significance of this lesion. The mechanism underlying the development of this liver disease is as yet unknown. It is suggested that immunological mechanisms may be involved and that the hepatotoxic properties of gold salt used in treatment may be a determining factor. It cannot be excluded that the coincidence of liver disease and rheumatoid arthritis is a chance association. The authors stress the importance of regular liver function tests in patients treated for rheumatoid arthritis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
