The site for CRP-3, 12 km east of Cape Roberts (77.006°S; 163.719°E), was selected to overlap the lower Oligocene strata cored in nearby CRP-2/2A, and to sample the oldest strata in the Victoria Land Basin (VLB) for Paleogene. The new data sets will drive a re-evaluation of the relationship between initiation of uplift of the Transantarctic Mountains (currently c.55 Ma) and VLB subsidence.

Abstract

The site for CRP-3, 12 km east of Cape Roberts (77.006°S; 163.719°E), was selected to overlap the lower Oligocene strata cored in nearby CRP-2/2A, and to sample the oldest strata in the Victoria Land Basin (VLB) for Paleogene. The new data sets will drive a re-evaluation of the relationship between initiation of uplift of the Transantarctic Mountains (currently c.55 Ma) and VLB subsidence.
