Morphology and distribution of Aspicilia parasitica B. de Lesd., a much neglected species, are discussed. Since the holotype has been lost, a lectotype was selected. Examination of the latter and other specimens showed that the diagnostic characters are quite constant. All of known stations of A. parasitica are in the central-eastern Mediterranean area and include Italy, Algeria, Greece and Bulgaria.
