The potential removal of benign pigmented skin lesions of the face, especially extensive ones, poses serious problems and is often limited for obvious cosmetic-functional reasons. Sources of intense pulsated light are currently the most promising method for this purpose, on account of their great power and efficacy, together with the beneficially selective action they exert on hyperpigmentation. In particular and in parallel with laser systems, interest has recently been growing in a method which exploits administration of intense non coherent pulsated light, appropriately filtered to ensure selective action. The literature currently reports a variety of case material on the use of this method, particularly for vascular lesions, while there is a paucity of data on the treatment of pigmented lesions. The authors present the case of a port-wine nevus in a young patient, treated with intense, non coherent pulsated light. This source proved to be highly versatile, selective and effective for this purpose.
