A remarkable disorder in the sperm tail of 2 unrelated patients is described. The tail was extremely short, with 3 imperfect brief axonemes arising from both centrioles. The accessory fibers were present, the tubules were rarely arranged in doublets and had no arms. Tubulin and the protein of accessory fibers were present but dynein was absent.
