Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD), main cause of dementia in the elderly, is underrecognized and undertreated, even though we have the tools to make an accurate clinical diagnosis. Identifying AD early is essential for effective treatment. We have effective treatments which, although they cannot cure AD, can slow its progression and improve. functioning and quality of life in many patients. Therapies to prevent or repair the neuronal damage that occurs with AD are in the early experimental stages of development. This article reviews symptoms clinical, diagnosis and drug therapies in patients with AD.
