Sixty-one strains of Campylobacter iejuni and 19 of Campylobacter coli were isolated during a study on the etiological role of Campylobacter spp. in child enteritis, which was conducted in the Siena area from January 1981 to December 1982. The clinical isolates were screened for plasmids and their antibiotic susceptibility was determined. The analysis of the plasmid DNA content in the isolated Campylobacter strains revealed an 11.2% incidence. No precise correlation was observed between resistance characters and plasmid occurrence.
