ENGLISH Grosseto is a new founded medieval town. The urban excavations allowed to understand the making process and the development of the early medieval village up to the walled Renaissance town. The study of the surrounding territory produced several data about the settlement pattern and the transformations of the paleo-environment. In this paper we use the spatial analyses to study the making process of the urban centre, the exploitation of the natural resources within its juridical district, mainly salt and crops. These methods applied to the historical and archaeological dataset allowed to read the landscape's transformations from a different perspective and to raise new questions. These tools allow to direct further researches according to a closer relationship between the settlement and the natural environment.

Abstract
ENGLISH Grosseto is a new founded medieval town. The urban excavations allowed to understand the making process and the development of the early medieval village up to the walled Renaissance town. The study of the surrounding territory produced several data about the settlement pattern and the transformations of the paleo-environment. In this paper we use the spatial analyses to study the making process of the urban centre, the exploitation of the natural resources within its juridical district, mainly salt and crops. These methods applied to the historical and archaeological dataset allowed to read the landscape's transformations from a different perspective and to raise new questions. These tools allow to direct further researches according to a closer relationship between the settlement and the natural environment.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
