High reliability organizations are complex systems in which many accidents and averse events are usually avoided. Many organizations in high-risk industries have implemented HRO approaches. In recent years also Hospitals have tried to become HRO, however, results are often far from being satisfactory. The paper shows that Hospitals are organizations intrinsically different from other HROs.
