Since the adoption of the UNESCO Conventions of Paris and Faro, intangible cultural heritage has progressively acquired a central role in scholarly debate and in cultural policy-making. Within the Italian legal system, despite long-standing calls for comprehensive regulation, only in 2024 was Law No. 152 of 7 October enacted, while the delegated powers it provides for have not yet been exercised. In the absence of an effective national regulatory framework, Italian Regions have independen- tly developed legislative approaches to the safeguarding and enhancement of intangible cultural heritage. This contribution undertakes a systematic analysis of regional legislation in order to assess the role played by the Regions in shaping administrative instruments and public policies for the protection and valorisation of intangible cultural heritage, and to examine how regional action has progressively assumed a supplementary function in response to the prolonged inertia of the national legislator.

Abstract
Since the adoption of the UNESCO Conventions of Paris and Faro, intangible cultural heritage has progressively acquired a central role in scholarly debate and in cultural policy-making. Within the Italian legal system, despite long-standing calls for comprehensive regulation, only in 2024 was Law No. 152 of 7 October enacted, while the delegated powers it provides for have not yet been exercised. In the absence of an effective national regulatory framework, Italian Regions have independen- tly developed legislative approaches to the safeguarding and enhancement of intangible cultural heritage. This contribution undertakes a systematic analysis of regional legislation in order to assess the role played by the Regions in shaping administrative instruments and public policies for the protection and valorisation of intangible cultural heritage, and to examine how regional action has progressively assumed a supplementary function in response to the prolonged inertia of the national legislator.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
