This contribution aims to study the forms of the canzone antica in twentiethcentury Italian poetry, according to greater or lesser proximity to the traditional model. There are perfect or near-perfect canzoni, for example by Saba (but also more-than-perfect canzoni by Berisso or Frasca) and freer reinterpretations, such as those of Pasolini. There are also examples of the residual persistence of some metrical elements, such as the congedo. Finally, this contribution investigates the historical and structural reasons of the scarce presence of this metrical form in twentieth-century Italian poetry. © 2023, SISMEL Edizioni del Galluzzo. Abstract
