Constitutional justice in sub-Saharan Africa, between constitutional mimicry and heterogeneous evolutionary paths – The paper questions the actual entrenchment and functioning of constitutional justice systems in sub-Saharan Africa, considering the colonial influence in their shaping. To this aim, two case-studies are used, selecting two Countries that have predominantly looked to the French model of constitutional justice: Benin, whose Constitutional Court has long represented a democratic beacon in the area; Cameroon, where the Constitutional Council has immediately acted as an instrument of power consolidation in the hands of President Biya.

Abstract
Constitutional justice in sub-Saharan Africa, between constitutional mimicry and heterogeneous evolutionary paths – The paper questions the actual entrenchment and functioning of constitutional justice systems in sub-Saharan Africa, considering the colonial influence in their shaping. To this aim, two case-studies are used, selecting two Countries that have predominantly looked to the French model of constitutional justice: Benin, whose Constitutional Court has long represented a democratic beacon in the area; Cameroon, where the Constitutional Council has immediately acted as an instrument of power consolidation in the hands of President Biya.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
