Come tu, maschio, mi vuoi : mimetismo e costruzione dell’identità femminile nel dramma dell’amnesia di Pirandello

The essay clarifies an obscure reference contained in the third act of Come tu mi vuoi, and from this minimal clue it starts to identify the central theme of the drama: the Unknown Woman's search for identity and the attempt to adapt to two different female stereotypes corresponding to as many forms of male desire. The woman without memory, in fact, first tries to find her identity by identifying herself as a femme fatale from the crazy Berlin of the 1920s and subsequently glimpses the possibility of being Lucia, the good wife of the bourgeois Bruno Pieri who disappeared ten years earlier after Caporetto. In the background, the theme of amnesia that characterizes the European theater of those years and the painful echoes of the Great War.

Il saggio chiarisce anzitutto un riferimento oscuro contenuto nel terzo Atto di Come tu mi vuoi, e da questo indizio minimo prende le mosse per individuare il tema centrale del dramma pirandelliano: la ricerca dell’identità da parte dell’Ignota e il tentativo di adeguarsi a due diversi stereotipi femminili corrispondenti ad altrettante forme del desiderio maschile. La donna senza memoria, infatti, prima tenta di trovare se stessa identificandosi in una femme fatale della folle Berlino degli anni Venti e successivamente intravede la possibilità di essere Lucia, la buona moglie del borghese Bruno Pieri dispersa dieci anni prima dopo Caporetto. Sullo sfondo, il tema dell’amnesia che caratterizza il teatro europeo di quegli anni e gli echi dolorosi della Grande guerra.
