The formerly urban, but now rural, area of the plateau that once accommodated the ancient city of Veii is particularly suitable to be investigated by non-destructive prospection methods. In the latest decades the CNR and the University of Siena implemented air photo interpretation of historical and recent vertical and oblique coverages, filed walking survey and the geophysical survey of the whole plateau collecting a total of 170 hectares magnetic measurements. Although a whole series of questions remains uncertain, the outcomes of the integrated interpretation have brought about substantial changes in knowledge based upon which new hypotheses can be framed; chronological phases have been clarified and previously invisible phenomena explored. Based on these new datasets but also of their integration with the numerous and important previous studies, in this paper, we present a series of thoughts on the main access gates to the city and on what was likely to see upon entering Veii.

Abstract
Based on these new datasets but also of their integration with the numerous and important previous studies, in this paper, we present a series of thoughts on the main access gates to the city and on what was likely to see upon entering Veii.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
