The dynamics of three coupled Bose-Einstein condensates was formulated on the basis of the standard boson coherent states. The existence of configurations with self-trapping within the dynamics of symmetric trimer was proved. The parameters governing the bifurcation mechanism causing self-trapping were identified which allowed the construction of analytic solutions.
