The Epic Tale of «Inafabeto» and the Poor Vicenzo Rabito Vincenzo Rabito, an uneducated farmer, is the author of two memoirs of extraordinary originality, written at different times, with which he shapes a different representation of himself and he offers us the measure of the mobility of individual memory, of the changes in the «interpretation» of his own existence and in the perception his own identity. Highlighting the importance of ordinary people’s self-narrative scriptures in historical research, the narrative times and spaces are examined from the national to the local and family, with attention to the experience of world wars and political affiliation, emphasizing the main features of Rabito’s biography, based on a strong and conscious identity that it is shaped over time and through difficult trials, as confirmed by the choice to leave one’s trace through writing.
