Lessing and puzzles. The four Byzantine riddles of Gud. Gr. 77 · The article deals with the four Byzantine riddles published by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing while he was working at the library of the Duke of Braunschweig, in Wolfenbüttel. The three riddles Lessing edited for the first time are attributed, in other manuscripts, to Manuel Moschopoulos; the fourth one, that had been already edited before, is elsewhere attributed to Julian the emperor. The article discusses these attributions, deals with the manuscripts that contain the quite (probably) Moschopoulean collection, and analyzes the solutions of the riddles proposed by Lessing himself and other scholars.
