Populonia, il territorio e l’arcipelago toscano: appunti per ricerche future

This paper attempts to outline some possible items for future research regarding Populonia and its hinterland. The knowledge of the birth and growth of the city owes a lot to the research of Gilda Bartoloni and her school. In the future, we should try to indicate new directions for research on ancient landscapes. Among the aspects that need to be explored are: the relationship between the city and its suburbs; a better framing of some issues of historical geography still in doubt; the layers of landscape directly or indirectly related to the various economic and social actors active in this context; influences arising from the different uses of the supply basins in time. Finally, it would be appropriate to enhance the external contributions in terms of the dissemination of technologies and culture in general.
