Vie parallele: a proposito di Camilla e Niso

In Virgilian scholarship the character of Camilla has been compared to Euryalus several times and also to the pair Euryalus and Nisus, but does not seem to have been the subject of a specific, systematic comparison with Nisus alone. This paper, through a careful rereading of the Aeneid (books 5 and 9 on one hand, and books 7 and 11 on the other hand), aims to demonstrate how, beyond the motif of mors immatura, there is a series of parallels that links Camilla and Nisus – and sometimes contrasts them –, creating, between them, a deeper correlation than it might seem at first sight.

Negli studi virgiliani il personaggio di Camilla è stato più volte paragonato a quello di Eurialo e alla coppia Eurialo e Niso, ma non sembra essere stato oggetto di uno specifico e sistematico confronto con la figura del solo Niso. Questo articolo, attraverso un’attenta rilettura del libri 5 e 9, 7 e 11 dell’Eneide, intende dimostrare come, al di là del motivo della mors immatura, esista una serie di parallelismi che legano Camilla e Niso – e talora forse li contrappongono – creando fra loro una correlazione più profonda di quanto possa sembrare a prima vista.
