Apollodorus, Athenian citizen by decree, is forced by the negligence of his replacement to extend his service on board as trierarch. He falls into debt in order to fulfil his obligations, mortgaging his property and taking out several loans, among which a maritime one. The maritime loan of 800 drachmas was raised from a naukleros called Nicippus, but it doesn’t look like a ναυτικὸν stricto sensu. The interests of this loan seem to place themselves between the world of maritime trade and the land loans (ἐγγείων τόκων). In this work we will try to investigate the nature of this particular Apollodorus’ loan and the terms of the contract.

Abstract
Apollodorus, Athenian citizen by decree, is forced by the negligence of his replacement to extend his service on board as trierarch. He falls into debt in order to fulfil his obligations, mortgaging his property and taking out several loans, among which a maritime one. The maritime loan of 800 drachmas was raised from a naukleros called Nicippus, but it doesn’t look like a ναυτικὸν stricto sensu. The interests of this loan seem to place themselves between the world of maritime trade and the land loans (ἐγγείων τόκων). In this work we will try to investigate the nature of this particular Apollodorus’ loan and the terms of the contract.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
