ABSTRACT: A term unique in the jurisprudential literature appears in PS. 4, 9, 8: Latina ingenua. The fragment – taken from the Breviarium Alaricianum – probably refers to the Latin daughter or descendant from Latini Iuniani. Therefore, the condition of these kind of Latini (who have not been granted the Roman citizenship in 212 A. D.) was transmitted across the time, from generation to generation. We know nothing about their rights; our available sources do not allow to speculate about it. Nevertheless, we can assume that part of the human material used to stabilise the colonate was constituted by freedmen coming from the Latini Iuniani and their descendants.
