Among the glosses to the bucolic corpus featured by the manuscript Paris, BNF, gr. 2832, dating back to the very first decades of the fourteenth century and coming from the circle of Demetrius Triclinius, those to the Lament for Adonis by Bion of Smyrna and to the anonymous Lament for Bion have remained largely unpublished until now. They are edited in the present paper, accompanied by observations on their importance for the exegesis of some passages, and also on the considerable amount (perhaps connected to a classroom use?) of demoticisms they convey, including one of the first explicit attestations of the late use of the term Νηρηΐδες to indicate generically the “nymphs”.

Abstract
Among the glosses to the bucolic corpus featured by the manuscript Paris, BNF, gr. 2832, dating back to the very first decades of the fourteenth century and coming from the circle of Demetrius Triclinius, those to the Lament for Adonis by Bion of Smyrna and to the anonymous Lament for Bion have remained largely unpublished until now. They are edited in the present paper, accompanied by observations on their importance for the exegesis of some passages, and also on the considerable amount (perhaps connected to a classroom use?) of demoticisms they convey, including one of the first explicit attestations of the late use of the term Νηρηΐδες to indicate generically the “nymphs”.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
