Objective: to evaluate number and quality of follicles, oocytes and embryos obtained in women aged ≤ 35 years and > 35 years old undergoing IVF cycles with GnRH analogous or antagonists. Patients and methods: this retrospective study evaluated 175 IVF cycles of consecutive infertile women aged ≤ 35 years and > 35 years old admitted to the Couple Sterility Center of Siena University between January 2006 and March 2007. Each group of patients was divided in two different sub-groups based on the analogous GnRH used (agonist or antagonist). Results: the number of follicles, oocytes and embryos was greater in the groups treated with agonists, while the oocytes and embryos quality was better in the groups treated with antagonists, but they have not been found statistically significant differences. Fertilization and implantation rates was similar between two groups. Conclusions: the administration of the GnRH analogous or antagonists in the women women aged ≤ 35 years and > 35 years does not determine statistically significant differences in follicles, oocytes and embryos number and quality, nor in fertilization and implantation rate. © Copyright 2007, CIC Edizioni Internazionali, Roma.
