The objective of this essay is to show that de-industrialisation and labour market reforms (i.e labour flexibility) can have a detrimental impact on labour productivity. To same extent, structural change towards the service sector in unavoidable among advanced economies. However, some countries can guide the change towards service sectors which can have higher productivity gains and better jobs. Industrial policies can influence these changes.
