Toponomastica e pluralismo linguistico nella Spagna autonomica

Toponymy is a sensitive issue, perhaps more sensitive than others, for it offers a visual and unmediated expression of the way regulations are implemented in regard to the cultural identities present in a given territory. This paper examines the regulations on toponymy in Spanish law from both the micro and macro perspectives; it also explores requirements on the use of language(s) in street names and road signage. The primary objective of this paper is to present an account-comparative in places-of the evolution and problematics of the Spanish approach to the formation of the “linguistic landscape”, a field which is closely related with changes in legislation, especially regulations introduced at the autonomous community level and designed to promote language rights and cultural pluralism in Spain. © 2019 Escola d'Administracio Publica de Catalunya.
