Hypnophila girottii Esu, 1978, described as a Plio-Pleistocene fossil species from the island of Sardinia, is revised and assigned to the monospecific genus Gomeziella. The new genus belongs to the familyAzecidae and has a shell shape close to that of Hypnophila Bourguignat, 1858, a genus with two species in Sardinia: H. dohrni Paulucci, 1882, and H. bisacchii Giusti, 1970. Gomeziella can be distinguished from these species and from all the other anatomically known azecids by a completely different structure of the genitalia.

Abstract
Hypnophila girottii Esu, 1978, described as a Plio-Pleistocene fossil species from the island of Sardinia, is revised and assigned to the monospecific genus Gomeziella. The new genus belongs to the familyAzecidae and has a shell shape close to that of Hypnophila Bourguignat, 1858, a genus with two species in Sardinia: H. dohrni Paulucci, 1882, and H. bisacchii Giusti, 1970. Gomeziella can be distinguished from these species and from all the other anatomically known azecids by a completely different structure of the genitalia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
