In order to contribute to understand the issue of phrasal segmentation and its variation in Middle French and Preclassic French, we examine here the strength and location of punctuation in the same text, the French prose version by Colard Mansion of "Métamorphoses "by Ovid, reproduced by different printers between 1484 and 1574. Favoring the diachronic extension of the corpus of the same textual, stricty linear tradition, turns out to be a way in order to identify the linguistic change in terms of phrasing segmentation.
