The article discusses the volume “The Sea in History. The Modern World” — the recent result of the work of an international research project, analysing the historiographical aims in relation to the recent developments in international maritime and naval history. The perspective offered by the article take a specific look at the considerations offered by the volume for the maritime and naval studies of Modern Italy.
