The church and baptistry of the parish church of San Lorenzo at Lomaso (Trento, Italy) have been the subject of research borne from the collaboration between specialists in different institutions (mainly the Soprintendenza per i beni culturali della Provincia autonoma di Trento, and the Universities of Padova and Trento). The paper presents the first results of this work, starting with information about the complex (mentioned from 1281) from archival sources and previous archaeological documentation. It systematically presents in turn the results of the stratigraphic analysis of the masonry with the articulation of the building phases, and the types of stone and the building techniques used in the construction of the original romanesque phase of the complex, legible in the façade of the church and in the baptistry. Finally the analysis is integrated with quantitative data relative to the construction time and manpower necessary for the building of the stone masonry of the baptistry. Starting from a count of the blocks still in use, an attempt to apply the labour constants of Giovanni Pegoretti (1843) – following an approach begun by Janet DeLaine - was carried out on the romanesque technique of building in stone with non-standardized elements. The results are based also on the sequence of construction of the bapistry and on the identification of the horizontal breaks in construction (the so-called “work-days”).
