«È impossibile che l’anima sia corpo». Il decimo libro delle Leggi di Platone come fonte di Plotino, Enneadi IV 7 [2], 4.

In Enneads IV 7 [2], 4, in polemising with the Stoics about the bodily nature of the soul, Plotinus evidently draws inspiration from a passage in the tenth book of Plato's Laws. In fact, in the famous section of the book devoted to the critique of atheism (891e-899d), one finds crucial themes present in the Enneadic chapter under examination, together with precise verbal correspondences (see especially Laws X, 896e-897b 4). Another passage that, in all probability, Plotinus uses in this context is taken from Aristotle's Metaphysics (IX 2, 1046b 4-7), concerning the distinction between rational and irrational powers.

In Enneadi IV 7 [2], 4, nel corso della polemica antistoica contro la natura corprorea dell’anima, Plotino si ispira evidentemente a un brano del X libro delle Leggi di Platone. Nella celebre sezione del libro riservata alla critica dell’ateismo (891e-899d), si trovano infatti temi cruciali presenti nel capitolo enneadico in esame, insieme a precise corrispondenze verbali (cfr. soprattutto Leggi X, 896e 8-897b 4). Un altro passo che, con ogni probabilità, Plotino utilizza in questo contesto è invece quello, tratto dalla Metafisica di Aristotele (Metaph., IX 2, 1046b 4-7), relativo alla distinzione tra le potenze razionali e quelle irrazionali.
