In this paper the units of measurement used in the architecture of pre-Roman and Roman Morocco are studied starting from some examples of buildings plans, their architectural decorations and the measures used in the squaring of building blocks (Volubilis and Thamusida). The aim is to understand whether in all these elements different units were used, but also how they were integrated and how they changed over time. In the Roman territories of North Africa, different traditions mixed and integrated during the imperial period as witnessed by several metric standards preserved in the cities of Lepcis Magna, Announa, and Thibilis. Although André Jodin has tried to show how in pre-Roman Morocco different types of cubits were used in architectural projects, derived from the Punic or Egyptian tradition, for ancient Morocco no metric standard is preserved. The search for the units of measurement can therefore only be done through an inductive method based on the remains of the buildings.

Abstract
The search for the units of measurement can therefore only be done through an inductive method based on the remains of the buildings.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
