Aloe arborescens leaf skin extracts showed an intense antiproliferative activity on murine myeloma cells (P3X) and human promyelocytic cells (HL60). Cytological study were carried out by immunofluorescence techniques and SEM and TEM observations. Attention was also focussed on the development of drug resistance in cancer cells after administration for long time of low concentration of Aloe arborescens leaf extract. In order to evaluate a possible molecular marker, the expression of both PGP and p53 proteins were tested by western blot techniques and immunofluorescence investigations. Chemical analysis of the leaf extract performed by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) techniques showed the consistent presence of the molecules aloin A, aloin B, aloenin and 2’O-feruloylaloesin.
