Abstract. This report presents the first results of a pilot study involving three 9th grade classes The study was based on a teaching experiment, consisting of a remedial activity centred on the use of the Algebra microworld, Aplusix, and aimed at detecting and overcoming well known pupils difficulties in symbolic calculation. A specific research goal of this study concerns the evolution of students’ attitudes towards their errors, comparing their behaviour within and without the software environment. The analysis of the collected data shows the effectiveness of the intervention not only in terms of decrease of the number of errors, but mainly in terms of development of consciousness, self confidence, and self control.
