This paper deals with modifications to the current IEEE 802.11b Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocol of the Medium Access Control (MAC) to support service differentiation between premium and regular users. A volume-based revenue model has been integrated with our simulation tool to understand clearly the impact of different traffic classes and user types. This work has been carried out under a joint cooperation between the University of Siena and CUNY.
