The research investigates the role of ironic modes of subjective mediation in the construction of the modern novel, focusing on the transition from the late eighteenth-century humorous novel to nineteenth-century realism. The starting point of the analysis is the notion of irony developed by the Frühromantik, particularly by Friedrich Schlegel, understood as the irruption of narrating subjectivity within the text. The thesis reconstructs the Wirkungsgeschichte of this concept along two main lines: on the one hand, the philosophical tradition, from Hegel to Kierkegaard, which interprets irony as an existential attitude; on the other hand, the line of literary criticism, which highlights its structural implications for the novel form.

Abstract
The research investigates the role of ironic modes of subjective mediation in the construction of the modern novel, focusing on the transition from the late eighteenth-century humorous novel to nineteenth-century realism. The starting point of the analysis is the notion of irony developed by the Frühromantik, particularly by Friedrich Schlegel, understood as the irruption of narrating subjectivity within the text. The thesis reconstructs the Wirkungsgeschichte of this concept along two main lines: on the one hand, the philosophical tradition, from Hegel to Kierkegaard, which interprets irony as an existential attitude; on the other hand, the line of literary criticism, which highlights its structural implications for the novel form.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
