Archéologie du bâti et chantiers de construction de sites fortifiés au Moyen Âge: de l’organisation du travail aux stratégies économiques et politiques des commanditaires

In my presentation I will focus on the study of the characteristics of the organisation of building sites from material sources using methods proper to the archaeology of architecture. The case studies I will present concern the architecture of Tuscan castles. I will analyse in particular the period between the 10th and 12th centuries, which in Italy, but not only, coincided with the more or less gradual transition from the use of perishable materials to stone. The organisation of the building site will therefore be the privileged observatory for investigating the economies and political dynamics of the time, as well as the criteria of self-representation of commissioners and the different levels of perception of architecture by contemporaries.
