Arterial and venous thromboembolism, a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, occurs when a blood clot forms and block blood flow damaging body tissues or organs. Current data seem to demonstrate that clot properties such as permeability are good indicators of an hypercoagulable state, relevant to the investigation and prevention of thromboembolism. In this study, the authors propose a compact, standalone low cost device able to perform clot permeability measurements. The proposed device was realized and tested exploiting in-vitro clots deposited in pipette tips.

Abstract
Arterial and venous thromboembolism, a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, occurs when a blood clot forms and block blood flow damaging body tissues or organs. Current data seem to demonstrate that clot properties such as permeability are good indicators of an hypercoagulable state, relevant to the investigation and prevention of thromboembolism. In this study, the authors propose a compact, standalone low cost device able to perform clot permeability measurements. The proposed device was realized and tested exploiting in-vitro clots deposited in pipette tips.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
