«Con assoluta sincerità». Il lavoro editoriale di Natalia Ginzburg (1943-1952)

This thesis examines Natalia Ginzburg’s editorial role at the Einaudi publishing house after the Second World War, through the study of unpublished documents preserved in the Einaudi Archive at the State Archives of Turin, and in the Silvio Micheli Archive at the Archivio del Novecento at the University of Rome "Sapienza". The main result of this research has been the transcription of Ginzburg’s editorial documents, such as letters with authors and translators, for the most part still unpublished. The analysis of these documents reveals Ginzburg's main role in narrative and translation projects, as well as the dynamics involved in her relationships with authors and collaborators as the only woman to have editorial responsibilities. These editorial documents were analyzed in relation with her literary and translation poetics, revealing the interaction between these fields. In particular, the last Chapter focuses on to the translation of Swann's Road and on her role as coordinator of the first complete Italian edition of the Recherche. This thesis investigates the criteria she adopted as translator and as coordinator of the whole edition. A central theme of analysis in this research is the way Natalia Ginzburg overturned traditional power dynamics between men and women through her editorial role.

La tesi ricostruisce il lavoro di Natalia Ginzburg alla casa editrice Einaudi nel secondo dopoguerra, attraverso lo studio di documenti inediti conservati presso l’Archivio Einaudi all’Archivio di Stato di Torino, e presso il Fondo Silvio Micheli dell’Archivio del Novecento all’Università di Roma “Sapienza”. Esito centrale del lavoro è stata la trascrizione dei carteggi con gli autori e i traduttori, per la maggior parte ancora inediti. L’analisi di questo materiale ha permesso di riportare alla luce il ruolo di Ginzburg nei progetti di narrativa e di traduzione, analizzando le dinamiche implicate nei rapporti con gli autori e i collaboratori della Einaudi anche in quanto unica donna ad avere delle responsabilità editoriali nella redazione. Lo studio del materiale ha permesso inoltre di far interagire il suo lavoro editoriale con la sua poetica letteraria e di traduzione. L’ultima parte della tesi è dedicata in particolar modo alla traduzione della Strada di Swann e al coordinamento di Ginzburg della prima edizione integrale della Recherche in Italia: si indagano sia i criteri adottati come traduttrice e coordinatrice del progetto, sia il rovesciamento delle tradizionali dinamiche di potere tra uomo e donna che Ginzburg ha realizzato attraverso il suo lavoro.
