The high number of refrigerators, freezers, cryogenic containers and incubators in Careggi Hospital (Florence, Italy) led to the necessity of identifying a centralized alarm system in order to guarantee a timely response in case of malfunctioning and to protect the material of high-scientific-relevance contained in them. Description of the problem: In 2017 a multidisciplinary staff was created, in order to check the devices that should be alarmed because of the critical material they contained, and to activate the alarms both in the rooms/devices and at the central Call Center (CC). The group developed a procedure to describe the functioning of the alarm system and that should be followed by the Directors of each involved ward.
