The keratin matrix offers compelling advantages in detecting drugs assumption: urine analysis, in fact, provides short-term information of an individual’s drug use, whereas long-term histories are accessible through hair analysis. In our study we collected and analyzed hair samples from corpses autopsied in Perugia to detect traces of drugs, and especially cocaine, in order to evaluate the prevalence of this drug in several types of death.
