Around the end of the nineteenth century emerge an increasingly widespread interest in the various artistic expressions born within psychiatric institutes. However, it was only at the beginning of the twentieth century that the works produced by patients suffering from psychiatric diseases began to find their place within the official artistic field and to be the subject of analyzes and publications that made them known to a wider audience. From the consultation of some documents preserved in the archive of the neuropsychiatric hospital of Arezzo, it emerged that many patients participated, over the years, in the life of the atelier of the hospital in this city. However, the works traced to date during this research lead us back to a few authors and to a short period, limited to the 1960s. It is a collection of works created by patients who are disinterested in the market and often indifferent to the understanding and approval of others, free from any formal inheritance and any cultural influence. These are therefore creations that go beyond our habits and our models, works that therefore go beyond the boundaries of criticism. The essay continues with the analysis of the works and their creators.

Abstract
The essay continues with the analysis of the works and their creators.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
